Alex Armstrong

Alexander Armstrong is a seasoned Level 2 swimming instructor with eight years’ experience teaching learners of all ages. He is also an accomplished competitive swimmer who has made a significant mark in the world of swimming.

From an early age, Alex demonstrated his passion for the pool, embarking on a journey that took him from club and county-level competitions to British Championships and Spanish Nationals, where he clinched numerous medals in both individual and relay events over the years. His impressive achievements in the pool also include making it to the finals at the Commonwealth trials in 2022 and after a long period of injury he is currently training towards securing qualification for the 2024 Olympic trials.

While excelling in his athletic pursuits, Alex has pursued higher education and is a final year student at the University of Surrey, studying International Hospitality & Tourism Management. He has been part of the Team Surrey Elite Athlete Scholarship Programme throughout his time at University. He has also successfully completed an International study year abroad in Australia at the University of Queensland.

During his tenure at Guildford City Swimming Club he collaborated with coaches and swimmers of varying ages, playing a pivotal role in motivating and nurturing swimmers to reach their full potential. He has also had the privilege of working alongside a diverse range of experienced instructors, which has aided the development of his own unique teaching style.

An important attribute Alex holds as an instructor is his commitment to providing exceptional teaching by not only sharing his extensive knowledge, but also drawing from his personal experience as an athlete. He adopts a holistic approach to swim teaching, addressing not just technique and physical conditioning but also the psychological aspects of the sport.

One of Alex’s favourite moments in the water occurred whilst he was swimming off the coast of North Stradbroke Island in Australia, when he unexpectedly came across a pod of dolphins which swam alongside him - a truly magical moment.

As a dedicated instructor, Alex enjoys seeing the achievements of his students. For him, the most rewarding aspect of swim teaching is the joy that lights up the faces of learners when they conquer the next milestone in their swimming journey, realising the progress they have made.

His top piece of advice for those learning to swim is to always give their best effort, be patient, maintain unwavering determination, and, above all, enjoy their time in the water. Alex’s commitment to excellence in swimming means he’s a great fit for GoggleSquad and we are delighted to have him on our team.
