Miguel Armstrong

Miguel Armstrong is a dedicated ASA qualified Level 2 swimming instructor who has taught children and adults how to swim for more than nine years.

Miguel's journey in competitive swimming started from the age of five. Throughout his formative years he represented the Guildford City Swimming Club and has competed at both South East regional and national levels, specialising in breaststroke and relay disciplines.

Miguel's dedication to swimming continued into his university years, where he has represented Imperial College at BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) events.

Beyond his achievements as a competitive swimmer, Miguel's passion for nurturing talent and fostering a love for the sport is demonstrated in his role as a coach at Imperial College. He has been instrumental in developing a comprehensive training programme for adult athletes and also provides expert guidance to novice swimmers, alongside his medical studies.

In addition to his swim coaching, Miguel is a devoted fan of water polo. As the medics' first team captain he has represented Imperial in competitions and is currently pursuing his certification as a Swim England water polo referee.

Miguel's love for the water also extends to the sea. A keen surfer, he has plans to compete at a national level and when not riding waves, he delves beneath them, completing over 20 dives as a qualified PADI scuba diver.

Despite his many aquatic adventures taking place abroad, Miguel holds a special place in his heart for the London Aquatics Centre; he fulfilled a lifelong dream of competing in the iconic venue years after watching the world’s top swimmers battling it out in the 2012 Games.

Miguel’s dedication to teaching swimming is driven by his belief that sharing his passion and helping others gain a lifelong skill is an immensely rewarding experience. His top tip for those learning to swim is to take it slow, be patient, and keep at it. As a top-level swimming coach, Miguel embodies expertise and devotion to the sport we love and we’re thrilled to have him on our squad!

Miguel teaches children and adults on Sundays at Feltonfleet School in Cobham on Sundays.
