Kingston upon Thames swimming pools

Kingston upon Thames is a popular spot for water-based activities - from rowing to wild swimming. To get the most out of this amazing riverside location, being able to swim well is a must and we’ve summarised swimming pool locations for recreational swimming and swimming lessons.

Latchmere School Swimming Pool

Latchmere School in Kingston upon Thames is the venue for GoggleSquad Swimming School’s intensive school holiday courses. The lovely indoor pool which is heated up to 31 degrees, is 15 metres x 5 metres in size and 0.9 metres deep throughout. We are fortunate to teach child lessons in this lovely venue, with a programme of intensive courses available in the school holidays.

Kingfisher Leisure Centre Kingston Swimming Pool

Kingfisher Leisure Centre Swimming Pool (closed)

The Kingfisher Leisure Centre was a popular pool with families but was closed in 2019 when an inspection for urgent repairs found the roof was in a bad way. Repairs would cost millions, so the decision was taken to knock it down and start again.

As doubts about whether this would actually happen began to creep in, Kingston residents were assured in 2021 that there would definitely be a new leisure complex in the future. In May 2022, proposals were formally green-lit by council planners.

Unfortunately the plans hit a hitch when the quote for the works was double the amount allocated in the council’s stretched budget. Hopefully a solution to provide a swimming pool for locals will be found soon.

The Malden Centre New Malden Swimming Pool

The Malden Centre Swimming Pool

Although technically in New Malden rather than Kingston, The Malden Centre is the nearest public swimming pool following the closure of the Kingfisher Leisure Centre.

There are two pools - a six-lane main pool that’s 25 x 13 metres with a shallow end of 0.9 metres and a 3 metre deep end, and a smaller teaching pool that’s 12 metres x 5 metres and 0.9 metres deep.

The Malden Centre offers ‘pay as you move’ public swimming as well memberships for those who swim more regularly. There are swimming lessons, family swims, girls-only swims, aquatic classes and a swim club on offer.
