Small group lessons as standard
At GoggleSquad we only offer small group swimming lessons to ensure learners get the time and attention they need. Lessons are tailored to meet learners’ needs so they can they develop the fundamental skills required to become a competent and safe swimmer. This focussed individualised approach to lessons gets great results.
Baby and toddler swimming lessons
The first year of a child’s life is a key stage for introducing them to how their body moves and feels in the water.
Because swimming pools can seem overwhelming to very young children, it’s important that they feel safe and in control. For this reason, we recommend that a parent or carer remains in the pool with their child until at least the age of three.
Instructors also play a vital role by recognising and responding to a child’s non-verbal signals. Equally, supporting parents to understand these cues helps build a child’s confidence and enjoyment in the water, which leads to stronger progress.
Our early years lessons are shaped by guidance from leading professional bodies, including the Swimming Teachers’ Association (STA), Aqua Sensory, and Aqua Education. This ensures our programme is comprehensive, up-to-date, and designed with young learners in mind.
It’s all about the play!
Our baby and toddler sessions are packed with sensory experiences, designed to stimulate young minds and support overall development. Sensory play encourages body awareness, coordination, and confidence, while also nurturing emotional wellbeing both in the water and beyond.
We like to spark imagination during lessons by weaving in themes from familiar stories and shows, such as The Gruffalo, Paw Patrol, or Octonauts. Broader ideas like “space adventures,” “a trip to the shops,” or “pirate quests” also help keep activities fun and engaging.
To support specific skills, we introduce buoyancy aids. These can help children practise balance, body alignment, breathing control, strength, and different ways of moving through the water.
From the earliest stages, our priority is to get children comfortable with two core abilities: floating on both the back and the front, and breathing in the water (blowing bubbles with the face submerged). Mastering these foundations is essential before moving on to swimming strokes..
Preschool swimming lessons
Our swimming lessons for preschool children aged from around three to four years old, are focussed on developing the key water skills that underpin all swimming strokes.
When they get to this age most children are stronger and able to take instructions. They are generally ready to focus on specific activities and skills such as balance, buoyancy, rotation, aquatic breathing and propulsion with their arms and legs - the building blocks for learning to swim.
School-age swimming lessons
We use the Swim England Learn To Swim Framework for school-aged children (stages 1-7).
With learners whose technique needs improving we will often go back to basics to ensure the fundamentals are in place before putting their stroke back together. For this age group we adopt an in and out of the water approach which offers a full 360 degree view of progress. In the pool the instructor can observe and correct a child in the moment whilst from the poolside they benefit from the bird’s eye view offered by an elevated vantage point.
Adult swimming lessons
Whether you’re one of 14 million adults in the UK who can’t swim or are looking to improve your swimming skills, our adult swimming lessons are an effective way to get great results.
With expert guidance from our highly qualified swimming instructors, you will master the important fundamentals of swimming and boost your confidence and ability in the water.
